The design colour scheme of Hues of Mount Kunanyi takes direct inspiration from the eucalyptus trees that grow along the mountain range that looms over Hobart. Their green leaves and blue oil haze hues are displayed through the chosen colours which dominate the room.
Bursts of orange scatter the space inspired by the way the sun hits the limestone rocks atop the mountain at sunset. The combination of colours creates a complementary colour scheme leaving a unique impression.
The blue and green theme of the space enhances the organic and angular shapes, which are a dominant feature throughout the room reflecting all facades of the mountain and the diversity of the natural landscape.
Textured materials were selected to create a warm and inviting space, including sculpted timbers and a floor-to-ceiling fireplace to take the chill from the Tassie air.
A sense of tranquillity emanates from the space lulling the guest into being transported to Mount Kunanyi, Tasmania.
"Artistic, imaginative and playful, the Hues of Mount Kunanyi boutique hotel is a highly sophisticated design concept," says judge Andrea Lucena-Orr. "Paired with geometrically patterned wallpaper and textured materials, the effect of these rich layers is decorative and emotive. Furthermore, the hand finish of the illustrated presentation sells the concept, beautifully conveying the way the nuance of light would affect the layers of colour. It is a whimsical yet mature and worthy winner."
