The Dulux Colour Awards 2022 Commercial and Multi Residential Exterior category recognises the best exterior paint finishes of any commercial, industrial, education facility or multi-residential apartment building. Category winner: Reddog Architects for Cannon Hill Anglican College, Brisbane. Photographer: Christopher Frederick Jones.
Cannon Hill Anglican College D Block is a new double-storey building with six learning spaces, breakout area, outdoor deck, locker bays, amenities, kitchen and eating area. Colour at entry and exit points to create “wayfinding” prompts to help students and visitors navigate through the building and campus.
Dulux products were used throughout this project including Aquanamel Gloss for door frames, Weathershield® Low Sheen for external walls, soffits and timber finishes, Acratex® AcraShield® Advance for rendering blockwork, Weathermax HBR two-pack gloss for window boxes and Intergrain Ultradeck on new timber decking.
“The new D Block at Cannon Hill Anglican College slots seamlessly into its campus location by balancing its bushland context with existing buildings. The role of colour in this educational facility cannot be understated; it was an integral part of the design process and a versatile device masterfully employed. White brickwork provides a canvas for the play of leaf shadows from the surrounding canopy; individual, yet cohesive palettes demarcate classrooms; and, colour-distinct exits and entry points aid navigation throughout the spaces. In awarding this project, we applaud the balance the architects struck when specifying colour to simultaneously create cohesion and distinction."
Take a cue from your surroundings like this project where the palette draws inspiration from the bushland surrounding the college. Adding to the Dulux World of Colour shades are Duratec® powder coating colours in Appliance White, Black, Sunshine Satin, Coast and Desert.

Thoughtfully created to provide colour therapy and its mental health benefits, as much as a physical connection to the hospital’s neighbouring parkland, Koolangka Bridge embraces Aboriginal culture as an integral part of its vibrant scheme. The underside mural, painted by Indigenous artist Kamsani Bin Salleh in Dulux Weathershield® colours offers an unexpected visual delight to those passing below, adding yet another dimension to this multi-faceted and impactful project.”
“This is a clear and convincing demonstration of colour usage to engage and enliven an otherwise-bland urban environment and utilitarian structure. Derived from the colour spectrum of wares at nearby market traders, the bold palette applied to aluminium tube screens results in a play of vibrant shades that merge to appear as a textured red when seen from afar. This is in deliberate contrast to a series of green walls applied to the east and west elevations. The complementary façade treatments elevate the car park to a landmark, which adds to the pedestrian as well as the driver experience.”
