Dulux Accredited Painters helped set up a Mini Woolies supermarket to help teenagers with disabilities experience hands-on learning.

Helping teens with special needs

Students with disabilities at a Perth secondary school are now receiving real-life experiences of supermarket shopping in a simulated setting. The "Mini Woolies" program provides active learning in a safe and comfortable learning environment for young people with disabilities. Each "store" simulates the operations of an actual Woolworths supermarket, with baskets for fresh food, shelving for groceries, Woolworths uniforms and operational cash registers.

Kensington Secondary School was delighted to be accepted into the program. The only problem was it had to prepare the room in a short amount of time and lacked funds.

Enter the local Dulux sales team, led by territory development representative Ciaran McAdden, who came to the rescue supplying paint and volunteers for the project to transform the space into a functional area.

“Dulux saved the day," says Vanessa Booth, program coordinator. "The Mini Woolies store is going to be an amazing program for our students.

"Thank you to the Dulux Accredited Painters who helped support doing good in their local community."

Our project painting partners were Mayday Painting, Van Diddens Painting and Decorating, AJ Cochrane & Sons, Blue Streak Painting, Platinum Finishes, and Z&T Painting Services.

Cairns’ ARC Disability Services

Cairns ARC Disability Services has received a welcome refresh to their Community Hub and Cafe, thanks to a team of local Dulux Accredited Painters. Since 1976, ARC has been a key part of the Cairns community. They provide a range of programs, services and skills training to empower disabled adults and children to reach their full potential. Support is also made available for their families. Dulux Accredited Painter Program Manager, Craig Blinco, says the participating Cairns Accredited painters are thrilled to have the opportunity to assist an organisation which contributes so much to the Cairns community. Cancer Council WA Crawford Lodge Project

Cancer Council WA's Crawford Lodge Community Project

A team of Perth Dulux Accredited Painters joined forces with Dulux Australia to repaint the interior of Cancer Council WA's Crawford Lodge. It was extensive undertaking with Painters and Dulux staff giving their time over eight weekends, as part of their Community Giving Program. The project represented over $140,000 in saved funds to the facility. This has allowed Cancer Council WA to invest these funds to support the one-in-two Western Australians that are living with cancer.
