Dulux Metalshield® Multipurpose Spray Paint can be applied to a range of metal and pre-painted surfaces. It is ideal for the maintenance of pre-painted gates, fences, gutters, downpipes and roller doors.
Ensure the surface has thoroughly dried prior to application.
Pre-painted metal surfaces:
• Scrape off all loose and flaking paint.
• Sand all surfaces to a flat finish.
• Dust off.
If previously painted surface is in good condition than no primer is required.
Treat any bare metal as below.
Aged or lightly rusted surfaces:
• Remove any rust by scraping, sanding or wire brushing.
• Wipe surface with Metalshield® Brush Thinner to remove any residual grease, oils and dirt.
• Once dry, apply one coat of Metalshield® Etch Primer Spraypak.
New bare steel and wrought iron:
• Wipe surface with Metalshield® Brush Thinner to remove any residual grease, oils and dirt.
• For maximum protection apply 1 coat of Metalshield® Etch Primer Spraypak first.
Galvanised iron and ZINCALUME®:
• Clean surface with sugar soap and a Scotch-Brite® Pad to remove any grease, oils and dirt.
• Rinse with clean water.
• Once dry, apply one coat of Metalshield® Etch Primer Spraypak.
Before spraying
• Shake can for at least three minutes after first rattle and regularly during use.
• Lower temperatures and high humidity will slow the drying and affect the gloss level.
• Avoid spraying when air or surface temperature is below 10°C or above 30°C.
Spray application
• Hold can upright 10 to 25cm from the surface.
• To ensure surface compatibility, test spray on an inconspicuous area.
• Spray with smooth, even strokes parallel to the surface.
• Apply with several light mist coats rather than one heavy coat, which can cause running and sagging.
After spraying
• Prevent blocking by turning the can upside down and spraying until clear gas emerges.
• Also wipe front of nozzle clean.
• Clean up overspray while it is still wet with mineral turpentine.
Storage
• Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place and and away from oxidising agents and corrosive materials.
• Protect from sunlight.
• Store away from sources of heat and/or ignition.
• Do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50°C.
