The 2005 Dulux Colour Forecast was inspired by memories of a setting sun, aqua blue oceans, shells, a pink flamingo taking flight, pumice stones and golden sands.
Colours were warming up with burnt oranges, red browns, and rich golds a strong feature of the year.
Softer pinks in fashion started appearing in Europe. Also, towels and bed linen were displayed in new season pinks. For feature walls, there was a stunning array of plums and clarets offset with watermelons and pinks.
The environment was exerting a powerful influence on the palette, not only in terms of colours but texture as well. As we moved to a more sustainable way of living, this connection with nature was being seen through the appearance of more tactile finishes.
Blues, always in fashion in some form, was seen in a range of tones from denim to deep-sea blues and moving to aqua and teals. The green-blue colour combination was inspiring. We were seeing an eclectic mix of stripes and patterns in fabrics and ceramics.
Buttery yellows, golds and light khaki were aimed at helping stimulate thinking, creativity and inspiration at home.
Texture was becoming just as important a consideration as colour when it came to interior decorating. It was being used to create dimension and interest to colour, especially when a more moody tone was chosen to add depth to feature walls and accents.
