More and more our homes were reflecting the way we felt and it was colour bringing our emotions to life.
Seeking connection at home was the key influence of the 2003 forecast with a focus on the effects of technology, spiritualism, textures and form, the environment, culture, and fashion.
We sought soft, warm colours at home to create a retreat and seek sanctuary from the starkness of our business surroundings. We became more alert to sensory needs and connected with nature.
Our travel experiences, multicultural society and an increasing willingness to try new foods were reflected in our homes. Meanwhile, fashion houses started to move into home furnishings revealing our experimental nature.
The 2004 palettes reflected our desire to revitalise colour in our homes with inspired colour palettes that evoked emotion and created a sense of security, comfort and wellbeing.
The trends echoed soft, muted tones co-existing with splashes of bright, clean colour and sophisticated naturals and neutrals.
In 2004 the colour trends included rich browns, soothing blue tones, golds, tropical yellow-greens, buttery yellows, naturals and neutrals, gentle greens and sensual reds, clarets, purples and pinks.
The Bordeaux palette carried a strong fashion influence with soft feminine pastel hues and rich romantic burgundy tones.
The Sahara palette was a strong environmental influence combined with textures and form highlighted with various shades of sand.
A strong cultural influence was behind the Mandalay palette with colours of the East such as rich copper reds and deep burgundy tones.
The yellows and greens, especially lighter, softer greens, gave the Amazon palette an opportunity to represent strong environmental and spiritual influences.
The Bermuda palette portrayed a strong fashion influence combined with our love of water. From the aqua blues of the Caribbean to the inky blues of the deep sea to cool green-blues for contrast.
