How we felt was the key to colour

More and more our homes were reflecting the way we felt and it was colour bringing our emotions to life.

Seeking connection at home was the key influence of the 2003 forecast with a focus on the effects of technology, spiritualism, textures and form, the environment, culture, and fashion.

We sought soft, warm colours at home to create a retreat and seek sanctuary from the starkness of our business surroundings. We became more alert to sensory needs and connected with nature.

Our travel experiences, multicultural society and an increasing willingness to try new foods were reflected in our homes. Meanwhile, fashion houses started to move into home furnishings revealing our experimental nature.

The 2004 palettes reflected our desire to revitalise colour in our homes with inspired colour palettes that evoked emotion and created a sense of security, comfort and wellbeing.

The trends echoed soft, muted tones co-existing with splashes of bright, clean colour and sophisticated naturals and neutrals.

In 2004 the colour trends included rich browns, soothing blue tones, golds, tropical yellow-greens, buttery yellows, naturals and neutrals, gentle greens and sensual reds, clarets, purples and pinks.
